Imperial College London is a university of world class scholarship, education and research in science, engineering and medicine, with particular regard to their application in industry, commerce and healthcare. Established in 1907, it is located in the heart of London. It is consistently rated among the United Kingdom's top three universities and was ranked 8th in the world by the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2012-13.
The College has over 3,000 academic and research staff and approximately 15,000 students from over 125 different countries. Our reputation for excellence in teaching and research in science, engineering, medicine and business attracts students and staff of the highest international calibre. Imperial staff are frequently consulted by governments and also act as members of professional bodies, advise industry, and offer informed comment to the media.
Imperial has three Faculties: Engineering, Natural Sciences and Medicine; the Imperial College Business School; and the Centre for Co-Curricular Studies. Interdisciplinary research is promoted through several Institutes, for example the Grantham Institute for Climate Change and the Energy Futures Lab. Both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching is providedin all branches of science, engineering and medicine.
Imperial's main campus is located in the South Kensington area of central London. South Kensington is probably best known for its museums – you will find the Victoria and Albert, Natural History Museum and Science Museum within a stone’s throw of each other, not forgetting the Royal Albert Hall and Royal College of Art. It’s hardly surprising then that the streets are filled with tourists, however it is also a largely residential (and immensely affluent) neighbourhood, with pretty white stucco terraced houses and numerous upmarket restaurants, bars, furniture shops and designer boutiques filling the streets. South Kensington is also home to Boujis, the nightclub so beloved of the young royals and their hangers-on.
